Rattle

Dance rattle in the shape of an Oyster Catcher carved from two pieces of wood. The bird's head has a beak made from a separate piece of bone inserted into the head. Opposite the head, the tail is carved in the shape of a wolf or bear head. The underside of the raven is carved with a low relief design of a hawk's head. Each of these components is painted with red, black, and green and decorated with incised details. The cylindrical handle protrudes from the rear of the bird and is wrapped with a leather thong. The sides of the rattle are secured with sinew strung through perforations and lined with two white ermine pelts.
