| Description | Turnip-shaped, angular, flaring neck; two vertical loop handles on body. Engraved. With a face on neck ornamented with incised lines and punctuate rows. Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an carinated body, flaring neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a rounded base. The vessel has modeled features of a face including ears, eyes, nose, and mouth. There are incised lines and punctate dots on the neck. The body was originally painted, but the design has faded. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Evidence of usewear includes surface attrition on the bottom/base. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1274b." |
