| Description | Vermeule: Chalcedony. Intaglio. (Chipped on corner to imitate an antique gem) Maenad holding thyrsus seen from back, in ecstasy before a terminal figure of Priapus, a Satyr blowing flutes crouches at right. Principal figures are paralleled by well-known statue group in the Tuileries Gardens in Paris which in turn are based on an ancient relief in the Louvre. |
