| Description | A folded piece of kapa (Hawaiian bark cloth). The piece of bark cloth has been folded into the shape of a braid. A patterned bark beater was used in the production of this bark cloth, leaving visible markings in the cloth. The pattern is similar to the Hawaiian bark-cloth beater pattern hoopai (parallel lines). The braid was made in the Museum by Hawaiian sailors in 1898. Pepa pāʻani (paper play) is a children's game. Paper or kapa (Hawaiian bark cloth) is folded into different shapes." |
