Amphora

Complete except for chips. Inverted echinus foot. Ovoid body in continuous curve profile from lip to foot. Flaring lip. Cylindrical handles. Beazley Amphora type-B (equals R & M, type Ia). Underside of foot unglazed. Outer foot glazed. Lower wall unglazed. Rest of body glazed except a panel on each side. A purple wheel run band at bottom of glazed area, just below panels and above level of upper attachment of handles. A, left to right, Hermes facing right; old man with spear facing right; and young man, with spear, facing left. All wearing similar long cloaks with crude purpole bands. B, 2 youths facing, each holding a spear vertically, both in similar cloaks with purple bands. Poor work, dull glaze, possibly a provincial imitation of Attic?
