| Description | Narrow face (whitened); elaborate headdress with high crest. Three projecting pieces on each side; star on forehead. See AF 5371. Representing the spirit of a girl prepared for marriage wearing the appropriate headdress, the ground-work of which is the hair of the wearer, plastered with a mixture of clay, charcoal and oil. The masker speaks with the voice of the spirit--his own, disguised by passing through a reed covered with a vibrating membrane. |
