| Description | Sommerville: Pale Amethyst. Young Augustus. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case Y. Vermeule: Pale Amethyst. Cameo. (Unmounted). Bust of a young man facing slightly to left., the whole beautifully carved in high relief. Sommerville identifies subject "Young Augustus" but the features are clearly copied form a bust of the so-called Menande-Vergil type. 18th or 19th century. Of very good workmanship. |
