Description

A wooden patuki (hand club) with an elongated, pointed blade and short handle. Both sides of the blade are carved with steel tools, a rauponga (rows of dog tooth notches between parallel grooves and ridges) surface pattern. The reke (butt of the weapon) is undecorated with a circular hole from which a wrist cord (tau) would have been attached.

A patuki is a one-handed weapon with a distinct triangular or rectangular cross-section and convex sides. Patuki were used in hand-to-hand combat, generally to strike, parry, and stab.
