Description

Doll of a woman in a hide (likely buckskin) dress, fringed with cords of the same material extending most of the way around the skirt. Holes pierce the skirt in the front; the fringed cords likely once extended the entire way around the skirt. A blue glass bead is strung through each cord where it meets the skirt. Waist of dress emphasized with a band of four rows of yellow glass beads. The same yellow beads border the edges of the sleeves, which fall halfway down the arms. A necklace of red glass beads is strung around the neck and connects with the waist band. Closer to the head, a band of long, off-white beads form another necklace – possibly made from shell or meant to resemble dentalium shell beads. There is a very faded drawing of features (eyes, brows, and mouth) on the face of the doll. The head has a lock of real hair – it is unclear if it is animal or human. It is dark brown, coarse and straight.

Height 26.5 cm
