| Description | Wooden Katsina doll with movable arms. The face is painted white with a green bird track on the forehead and large, bulging eyes. A headdress of metal feathers is attached to the back of the head. There is a painted horn on either side of the head and a large, open mouth full of teeth. The figure wears a painted skin over the shoulders, a sash around the waist, painted black pants and holds a saw in one hand. The skin and the sash are likely made of layered paper. This figure is the White Ogre (Wiharu) Katsina. (Colton, H. 1959 #31, Wright, B., 1973 #80) |
