| Description | The object is identified as a Hopi Ogre or Nataska. It is a painted wooden carved figure with two horns, large protruding eyes, mouth, and toungue, and three carved feathers on its head. Proper right (PR) hand holds a black saw blade, a short stick is held in the left hand. The figure wears a fur ruff collar, fur arm bands, a leather cuff on proper left wrist, a loin cloth made of an embroidered dance kilt, and moccasins with fringed anklets. Leather garters with shells are attached below the knees. Painted colors: red/brown, black, white, red, blue, and green. |
