Description

One of a series of popular prints on paper of Chinese deities from peasant cults. The Pantheon, wan shen dian (萬神殿), of popular Chinese Buddhism including local gods of Wealth and Fortune.The print includes names for each deity and group of deities.

Upper section:

文殊 Wenshu / Mañjuśrī

覌音 > 觀音 Guanyin / Avalokiteśvara

燃灯 Randeng / Dipankara

樂師 Yaoshi / Medicine Buddha / Bhaiṣajyaguru

如來佛 Rulai fo / Tathāgata Buddha (Śākyamuni)

阿弥 > 阿彌 Emi / Amitābha

弥勒 > 彌勒 Mile / Maitreya

大世 [usually written 大勢至] Dashi / Mahāsthāmaprāpta

普賢 Puxian / Samantabhadra

Middle Section:

地藏 Dizang / “Earth Treasury” bodhisattva Kṣitigarbha

*Shi yi da yue 十一大月 (lit. “Eleven great moons”) probably refers to what are usually called the Shi yi da yao 十一大曜 “Eleven great luminaries”, consisting of the Sun, Moon, and five visible planets, together with the more obscure Rāhu, Ketu, Ziqi and Yuebei.
