| Description | Sommerville: Antique paste intaglio. Two peacocks at a fountain. Antique Pastes, Case ZZZ. Vermeule: Glass paste, imitating onyx. Intaglio. (Unmounted) Iridescent. Two peacocks perched on a vase surmounted by a thrysus. The design is copied from a gem of the Ist B.C. to A.D. of which several versions survive, the most notable being that in the Soane Museum in London. |
