| Description | Wooden Katsina doll. The face is painted black with a white line bisecting it vertically. The eyes are painted white and shaped like commas. The mouth is a long, painted, protruding beak. Two hair whorls stick out diagonally from the top of the head. A patterned cloth is worn over the shoulders and a dress is painted on underneath. Leather strips are wrapped around each wrist. This figure is the Hump-backed Flute Player Maiden (Kokopelli Mana) Runner Katsina. (Colton, H. 1959 #66, Wright, B., 1973 #231) |
