| Description | Wooden Katsina doll carved from one piece of wood. The face is bisected vertically by a black and white line into green and yellow halves. The mouth is wide and rectangular and a black beard with feathers hangs below. A blue-painted flower blossom is attached to one side of the head and a painted feather on the opposite side. An unpainted blanket is wrapped around the body with a design around the lower edge. A colorful scene of clouds and turtles is painted over the front of the body. The base is carved to resemble a Pueblo village. This figure is an unconventional Turtle (Kahaila) Katsina. (Colton, H. 1959 #70, Wright, B., 1973 #185) |
