| Description | Sommerville: Paled Sardonyx. Homer with inscription. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case J. Vermeule: Pale Sardonyx, Cameo. Intaglio. (Unmounted). Head of Homer facing, inscribed above in Greek letters. Scarab monogram and lyre in intaglio on reverse. Sommerville states, "I obtained this through Marselli from a Turk who during the late war found it in the Palace of Abdul Assiz, who committed suicide." |
