Sarcophagus Fragment

Fragment of a red granite sarcophagus belonging to the Lady of the House, Nefret-Mut, wife of Setauw, Viceroy of Kush under Ramses II, Dynasty XIX. This fragment represents the head end of the sarcophagus, and still retains the base, and a portion of the left side. The exterior is carved and painted. At the head is a yellow and black striped wig. At the shoulder is an image of Thoth, standing holding a staff in the vignette of BD151. To the left are three and a half columns of text. The second column contains the name and title of the deceased. To the left of the text is a standing anthropoid god labeled as Imsety. The top edge has a notch on the inside to accept the now missing lid. This top edge area is painted red.
