| Description | Pyxis (MS1486A) on low foot with lid (MS1486B). Pale buff clay coated outside with a white slip, much worn, and applied red decoration. The interior fired to a pinkish-buff. Pyxis decoration consists of irregularly drawn squares outlined over a white slip. No decoration within the squares. The lid, a perfect fit, has a low vertical flange underneath to hold it in place. On top is a low, narrow, hollow ring for lifting. Decoration in red consists of 12 hand-drawn semicircles around the rim, each filled with dots. Next, a broad red circle with more or less perpendicular lines protruding from it, and the red covered ring. |
