| Description | A silver note issued by the Konparu family (金春) in Washu (和州) also known as Yamato province, present day Nara Prefecture. The denomination is one monme of silver (銀壹匁). It is dated to the Edo Period when these type of private notes were issued. The obverse has Daikoku at the top with a wish granting jewel below. The reverse depicts a scene from a Noh play Takasago (高砂) showing a married couple (Jo and Uba) with a crane above them and a minogame turtle at their feet set amidst pine trees. These are all signs of longevity and symbolize a harmonious marriage. The man is holding a rake while the woman holds a broom. The Konparu family started one of the major schools of Noh. |
