Description

Per original list/catalogue card: Man with tortoise shell. Made of polished clay with mottled red glaze. Of a male, kneeling over a tortoise, holding it with his left hand and striking it with a cylindrical tool in his right hand. Rim of the toritoise shell is scored. The tortoises back is carved with a pattern of lines of connecting circles. Figure is wearing an elaborate headdress; the back portion extends down his back with a chin strap under his face. The deaddress has a sgraffito pattern of criss-crossed lines. Figure is hollow with hole in top of headdress. L: 12.0; W: 11.5, Ht - 20.0

Per catalogue card: Alligator flute made of poished clay with orange and brown mottled glaze. Alligator stands on 4 legs. Body is textured. There are 4 holes in its back, one hole in the tip of the nose, and one on the underside of the neck. Two small holes on either side of the head represent eyes. These holes do not go all the way through the surface. L. 35.25. Ht 5.0 cm.
