| Description | Sommerville: Chalcedony-onyx. Urania, one of the Nine Muses - Astronomy. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case H. Vermeule: Chalcedony. Cameo (modern gilt pendant mount with loop). Muse Urania seated to right on a rock-work throne. She contemplates a large orb held on her left knee. The body type and drapery copy Hellenistic Muse statues such as the groups in the Vatican and Madrid. |
