| Description | Male terracotta votive head; Central Italy, undoubtedly from a sanctuary, votive deposit; capite velato type; large example; very fine; broken across back and base. Missing: lower part of front and most of back. Forward part of head only represented. Frontal pose; sickle shaped locks above forehead. Framed by simplified representation of a mantle drawn over head. Back so far as preserved is plain; trace of a vent hole. mold made; finger marks on interior. Hard buff clay with small grits. Possible traces of red or pink on cheeks. A bit under life size. |
