| Description | Wooden Katsina doll carved from one piece of wood. The face is painted pink with an inverted 'V' shape above a yellow beak. Carved feathers sit atop the head and are attached to the arms to form wings. A large moisture tablet is attached to the back in order to bring rain. A painted kilt is wrapped around the waist. The base is carved and painted with waves. This figure is the Eagle (Kwahu) Katsina. (Colton, H. 1959 #71, Wright, B., 1973 #87) |
