| Description | Wooden Katsina doll carved from one piece of wood. The face is painted black with eyes joined by a horizontal band of green. Large flower blossoms are painted on either side of the head. A small bird rests atop the head. The neck and ankles are wrapped in carved foliage and a long, protruding mouth sticks out from the neck foliage. Sashes and pouches adorned with shells cross the body and a painted kilt is wrapped around the waist. Yucca whips are carried in each hand. This figure is the Sipikne Katsina, borrowed from the Zuni, and represents a Zuni warrior. Made by Michael Kahe. (Colton, H. 1959 #152, Wright, B., 1973 #129) |
