Description

A wide brimmed hat made of vertical strips of palm leaves fastened together with thread sewn in horizontal bands, rising to a narrow cone shaped crown with an overlay of brown and yellow grasses woven in a zig-zag design; brim onsists of narrow strips of bent wood sandwiching the ends of the palm leaves and fastened to them with braided and wrapped vegetable fiber of a darker color. Exhibited at the Louisiana Purchase Exhibition, St. Louis 1904.
