| Description | A sample of bark used for yellow dye. A tag with the piece reads: "Tonkin 7403 Tinct." The number corresponds to a French publication that has an entry of: "Huynh Ba. Tonk., 7403, ecorce jaune tres prononce." This likely refers to hoàng bá nam (Oroxylum indicum) as the publication has it in the dyeing section. However it could also be from the Hoàng bá tree (Phellodendron species), (Chinese: 黃柏) which is used for medicinal purposes. |
