Description

Á black flat-brimmed korean official or military hat (전립jeollip) constructed of matted horse hair over black felt. The brim is lined with blue silk brocade while the crown is unlined. It is heavily trimmed including: (1) tail of horsehair dyed red attached to crown with brass trim, (2) golden raw silk tassel attached to tail, (3) double purple silk-wrapped cord tied in bow at base of crown, (4) bunched feathers held in brass shaft stitched to crown-peacock and ostrich (dyed blue), (5) carved ivory object attached to right brim, representing vegetable or nut; purple cords attached to each side with hooks.
