| Description | Long wooden box for storing three Japanese Buddhist paintings. There is a printed label of the San Fransico dealer G.T. Marsh & Co. pasted on the inside of the lid. A brush and ink inscription on the outside of the lid specifies the three paintings as follows: 百體觀世音菩薩 Hyakutai Kanzeon bosatsu “100 Body [Manifestations] Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara.” 光明曼荼羅 Kōmyō mandara “Light mandala” 四國八十八箇所本尊 Shikoku hachi jū hachi-kasho honzon “Principal deity images from the 88 sites of the Shikoku pilgrimage.” 三幅 Sanfuku “Three scrolls” |
