| Description | Sommerville: Maculated Sardonyx. Constantine, Emperor of Rome A.D. 306-337, son of Constantius Chlorus, a Dalmatian. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case V. Vermeule: Maculated Sardonyx. Cameo. (In an older silver pendant setting (loop removed) later placed in a larger gold pendant setting, head and chain coil). Laureate cuirassed bust of Emperor Constantius II (337-361). This magnificient gem seems to be Italian work of the XVIth A.D. |
