Description

Natural color bark cloth with red and black stripes. Indigenous Hawaiian design with European textile pattern influences (Kaeppler). Woman’s waist band (Peale) or bark cloth with no traditional function (Kaeppler). Acquired during the United States Exploring Expedition (1838-1842) by Titian R. Peale. Ka Hana Kapa #367.
