| Description | Vermeule: Chalcedony-Onyx. Cameo. (Modern gilt ring setting) A centaur walking to right, carrying a maenad on his back. He holds flutes in his extended hands. The design is copied from Roman sarcophagi of the late II or III A.D., such as the example in the Compo Santo at Pisa. Italian, 15th century. |
