| Description | Lid of Nicosthenic pyxis. Minor fragments restored in plaster. The only part fully glazed is the outer edge of the rim. Outline ray pattern radiates from base of knob. A figured zone around outer part of top. Dots to represent inscriptions in field. Several scenes portrayed, as follows. (1) youth setting forth on horse, one onlooker behind, 2 in front. (2 ) two armed warriors in combat observed by a seated, bearded man and a standing woman behind and a standing woman and youth on the other side. (3) youth setting out on horse observed by a seated bearded man and a youth(?) behind. (4) scene of armed combat between two warriors (with a third, fallen, between (?) observed by a single woman on each side. |
