| Description | Sommerville: Onyx. Hand pinching an Ear: "Don't forget me." Greek and Roman Cameos, Case U. Vermeule: Onyx. Intaglio. (Unmounted). A hand grasping an object resembling an ear. The inscription in late antique or Byzantine Greek letters is translated by Sommerville as "Don't Forgive Me" He states that a similar gem is in the library at Ravenna. Late Antique or Byzantine. |
