| Description | This limestone fragment of a funerary stela shows the deceased and his wife, who is embracing him with her left arm in a tender gesture, from approximately the neck down, as the rest of the stela is missing. The male figure is wearing a pointed kilt and holding a staff in his left hand and a sekhem-scepter with his right hand, which he is keeping parallel to the ground line, in common fashion. What is particular about the depiction of the figure is the treatment of the musculature in his calves, which is shown as sharp lines down the length of the lower legs, as well as the emphasized rendering of the rotula of the knee. The female figure is wearing a long, sheath dress, and a wesekh collar, and is holding with her right hand a basket with the handle of a mirror peeking out. |
