| Description | Sommerville: Egyptian Jasper. Represents Antoninus Pius and his Genius supllicating the deity speranza on the inaugration of a military expedition. Minerva on the right. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case J. Vermeule: Chacledony-Onyx. [unmounted] A male and female figure adoring a statue of Eros standing on a rectangular base. A third figure resembling Paris is seated at right. The whole within a wreath. Another gem in the Sommerville collection #51 shows similar composistion. An ancient gem underlies these compositions. 16th or 17th century. |
