| Description | Sommerville: Pale Sardonyx. Scipio Africanus, so called on account of his conquests in Africa. He destroyed Carthage. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case L. Vermeule: Banded agate. Cameo. (Unmounted). Bust of a man of the later Roman Republic, facing to right. The features are termed by Sommerville those of Scipio Africanus, are copied from a marble portrait of an unknown person (compare the so-called Cicero in the Uffigi Gallery, Florence). Neo-Classic. |
