| Description | A flat toki pounamu (nephrite adze blade) made of pounamu (New Zealand greenstone). The blade end is sharpened, and the opposite end is rounded. Pounamu is thought of as an ideal material to be shaped into cutting tools as it is durable, and the cutting edge is not blunted easily. The collector, Maxwell Sommerville, stated that the blade was from a chief's adze (toki poutangata). |
