| Description | Palm leaf book (lontar). Ten long, narrow palm leaf pages held between flat bamboo covers by a cord strung through both pages and covers. Illustrations on one side of each page, text on the other. "Text and illustrations of old Balinese palm-leaf books called lontar are engraved on palm leaf strips with a fine stylus and then darkened with the soot of burned palm-leaf spines rubbed into the grooves."
