Description

A woodblock print showing a Shaivite holy family. The basic image utilizes black ink printed on a thick piece of paper. The red color was added by hand in specific areas. The print is set in a palace setting under an arch supported by columns. Shiva and Parvati (Shiva's wife) are sitting on Nandi (the bull), while their sons, Ganesha, and Karttikeya are held on either side by attendants. The print is done in a folk art style and consistent with prints made in the Battala region of Calcutta (Kolkata) an area with a long history of print culture.
