| Description | Round, wooden Katsina doll. The face is painted black with a wide mouth and bulging eyes. A beard made of fur hangs below the mouth. Two black-painted horns are attached to the sides of the head, each with unpainted stripes. The body is painted black with white symbols on the arms and torso. A red, horsehair kilt is wrapped around the waist. This figure is a variation of a Whipper (Hu) Katsina. (Colton, H. 1959 #14, Wright, B., 1973 #67) |
