| Description | Sommerville: Carenelian-Onyx. Incognito. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case E. Vermeule: Sardonyx. Cameo. (Unmounted) Broken across top. Draped bust of a young lady to left. Since she appears to be wearing a lionskin on the head she is to be identified as Omphale, a friend of Herakles. Graeco-Roman. Representations of Omphale were popular in the Imperial Period of the life-size marble statue of a lady of the Severan period as Omphale in the Vatican Magazine. |
