| Description | Five Layers: outer two layers decorated, three inner layers plain. Patterned layers with red and black stamped designs. Border along bottom consists of alternating blocks of red and black spiky stripes. Woman’s garment (pa’u). Acquired by the United States Exploring Expedition (1838-1842) by Titian R. Peale. “Dress [garment] of ‘tapa,’ female attire.” on Peale list. Ka Hana Kapa #389. As per ANSP Ledger Remarks "Five thicknesses innermost + outermost printed. Brighman Ka Hana Kapa pl. ?.1" |
