Playing Card Box

Box for holding Dasavatara ganjifa playing cards. Lacquered or painted wooden box with sliding lid. Interior and bottom in red. Each side and top painted a scene with Hindu deity at center and several subordinate figures. Top represents Ganesha on throne surrounded by four standing female attendants. The side scenes are: Hanuman with Gada or club raised faces two blue standing figures; seated Shiva with four standing female attendants; seated Vaishnavite ascetic on throne with four standing male attendants; and the child Krishna on throne with one standing male attendant and three standing female attendants.
