| Description | Wall hanging decorated with mirrored glass and floral and geometric patterns. The piece has silk embroidery and mirror work (abla bharat or shisha) on a dyed plain-weave cotton. The design is drawn on first. It was made with mostly close herringbone stitch with no outline stitch in brightly colored and neutral silk floss (heer). Tan border stripes are done in chain stitch using thin strands of twisted silk floss. Thin strands of twisted silk floss in olive green are used in long floats to outline the triangles on the outer border; the same thread is used with two strands per threading in herringbone stitch to form an inner border. Diamond border design formed by overlapping pink and purple zig zags in interlaced stitch pattern. This is an example of kanbi (or kunbi) bharat ('work'). 89-13-368 and 89-13-371 also have neon pink thread. It is embroidered with floral and geometric patterns in violet, green, pink, blue, and white thread and with circular mirrored glass. Beige colored cloth backing. Mustard yellow colored background. |
