Description

A color woodblock print of a battle from the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-5. It is a triptych with three sheets of paper glued together. The Japanese soldier in the center is identified as Lieutenant-General Nozu whose full name is Nozu Michitsura 野津 道貫 (1840-1908). The Japanese soldier on the left is identified as Major General Yamagata whose full name is Yamagata Arimoto 山縣 有朋 (1838-1922). The Chinese soldier in the middle is identified as defeated General Feng Zizhao (敗將 馮子找). The title of the print is 九連城激戰我兵大勝利 which translates as "A Great Military Victory in the Fierce Battle for Jiuliancheng". The artist is Utagawa Kokunimasa. The publisher is Katada Chojiro.
