| Description | Sommerville: Chalcedony, tinged with Sapphire color. Vestal Virgins before their temple, guarding the Palladium, the sacred effigy of Minerva. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case Q Vermeule: Chalcedony. Cameo. (unmounted) Vestal Virgins before their temple. The two Vestal Virgins are flanked by two Greek youths wearing only cloaks. These are perhaps the Discouri. Probably after older models. |
