Seven Sages in Grove. Artist Liu Songnian 劉松年 (flourished 1190 - 1230 CE). Done in style of painting academy of Tang-Song period. Natural settings e.g. waterfall, rock, clouds, trees are purposely distorted in contrast with human figures done in free, expressive manner. Formerly in the collection of John Calvin Ferguson (1866 - 1945 CE). |
