| Description | Sommerville: Oriental sardonyx. The Emperor Trajan with Victory driving him in a quadriga. Notice the horses. A valuable and beautiful antique cameo. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case G. Vermeule: Oriental sardonyx. Cameo (Modern gold pendant setting. May have been a locket. reset probably in XVIII or XIXth). Victory driving a Roman emperor in a quadriga to left; all within a heavy laurel wreath. Sommerville identifies the emperor as Trajan. (98-117 A.D.) Renaissance. |
