Burin

Mottled, and banded brown and white fine-grained rock. Artifact broken (probably snapped) at oblique angle to what appears to be by longitudinal axis. Edge opposite burin-like edge ground on both surfaces to produce sharp ridge. Both surfaces ground over entire area except near base. Base (8mm wide) flaked on both surfaces, producing sharp edge. Burin-like surface (so called because surface is at right angles to plane of both surfaces) begins 3mm from base as a point and widens to width of 1.6 mm. Continues to be approximately this wide for 10.5mm, and then widens to its maximum width of 2.5mm. At junction of burin-like facet and one of surfaces, number of small use scars present. Striations across burin-like facet perpendicular to facet edge. Surface with no use scars has striations oblique to longitudinal axis. Surface with use scars has a few striations parallel to longitudinal axis.
