| Description | Sommerville: Chalcedony-Onyx. Caracalla, twenty-fourth Emperor of Rome, A.D. 211-217, so called from the long Gaulish tunic which he wore. Greek and Roman Cameos, Case Y. Vermeule: Chalcedony-Onyx. Cameo. (Unmounted). bust of a man to right, broken and poorly repaired at left side. Sommerville identifies him as Caracalls, but features seem to be a portrait of a personage of the period of George III. Late 18th Century. |
